Travel Vaccinations

Travel vaccinations available through the NHS are given by practice nurses.

If you are travelling abroad you may need to be vaccinated for Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio; Typhoid; Cholera; Hepatitis AB Combined.

Please complete the travel assessment form at least six weeks before travel; print the form and return to reception once completed, or ask reception for a copy. The Practice Nurse will then review the form and advise what travel advice and vaccinations (if any) are required and whether a travel appointment is needed.

Immunisations

As a practice we strongly believe children should be fully vaccinated (with very few exceptions). If you have any doubts about any vaccination please come and speak to the nurses or GPs here.

We are now able to protect children against a wide variety of potentially serious diseases.

In addition to the nurses, we have staff who are specially trained in phlebotomy and our healthcare assistants can also carry out other procedures such as ECGs and blood pressure reviews.

You can make an appointment by phoning or calling in at reception or by booking online.

Cervical Smears

Smears are offered to women aged between 25 and 65.

The national cervical screening programme is a method of preventing cancer by detecting and treating early abnormalities which, if left untreated, could lead to cancer (usually over a number of years).

Most smears are now carried out by our practice nurses and for most women are quick and easy.

Smears are only necessary at the appropriate intervals, but if you have worrying symptoms between smears please make an appointment to discuss them.

  • If you are very anxious about having a smear again please come and talk to us about it.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges.

What is covered by the NHS and what is not?

The Government’s contract with GPs covers medical services to NHS patients. Sometime the only reason that a GP is asked to provide information is because they hold a position of trust in the community, or because an insurance company wants to be sure that the information provided to them is true and correct.

Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
Insurance claim forms
Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
Private sick notes
Vaccination certificates
Medical reports for an insurance company
Certain reports for the DSS / Benefits Agency
Examinations for Local Authority / Ofsted Reports

I only need a doctor’s signature!

When a doctor signs a certificate or report, it is a condition of the Medical Register that they only sign what they know to be true, in order to complete even the simplest of forms, the doctor might have to read a patient’s entire medical record.
